For NJ your mother-in-law has to file form NJ-1040 as a
part-year resident. It's the same form that full-year
residents use. If she had any NJ-source income after she
became a CO resident, she may also have to file form
NJ-1040NR as a part-year non-resident. You might want to get
an NJ-1040NR package so you can read the instructions about
what is considered NJ-source income.

She will file part-year resident returns in both states.

If you go to this site, www.taxadmin.org, you will find
links to forms for all states. Look for the form that is
used for part-year residents.

The CO return package, Form 104, available at
http://www.revenue.state.co.us/PDF/03104.pdf
includes schedule 104PN, which is used to calculate
part-year taxes.

Default NJ and CO part-year returns

I'm an Alabama resident and I need to file tax returns for
my mother in law. She was a full-time resident of NJ for
sixty years until 11/03 when she moved to an assisted living
facility in CO where she is now a full time resident. What
tax returns do I file for NJ (part-year? non-resident?) and
CO (resident?, part-year? )

If you could kindly tell me the proper Form numbers to use
for NJ and CO, then I will be able to request those forms
properly.

Thanks for any help.
