I sent you by e-mail (philmarti[at]aol.com) the Q& A from the
Taxwise Support Center on this issue. It is possible that
AOL's SPAM filter blocked it. Just login to the Taxwise
website and go to the Knowledgebase.

I think you're right! See Error 190 in Pub 1345A.

I work at two sites, and I think we'll have 'net access at
only one. Better than nothing. Of course, we can always
have them line up at the pay phone and listen to music on
the 800 number.

Sorry to part company with Phil, but I hope I get all the
rejects electronically. The mathmatical notices always look
like "we" made a mistake. I would prefer to be "warned" by
an e-file reject rather than have the client get a notice.

I was kind of hoping that any mathematical correction would
be avoided by e-filing.

Just my two cents,

Phil, I taught VITA this year and we suggested if the site
had internet access to go to www.irs.gov and look it up for
everyone.

For you I can see why, yes, and sorry to hear that.

For most of us however, we have reference to last year's
return for returning clients and can therefore compute it.
Also you know, there's that IRS hotline you can call .

Yup.

Same as with the advance tax rebate of a couple of years ago.

You can try to call the 800 820 1040 number or go to the
internet link via
http://www.irs.gov/individuals/artic...111546,00.html
and enter SSN, # of exemptions and filing status from 2002.

It will give you the right answer.

Or if you have last year's return it's pretty easy to
calculate.

It is my understanding that a reject will occur only if the
full amount ($1000) is claimed for a child and there was an
advanced payment. If less than the full amount is claimed,
the return should be accepted and the IRS should make any
necessary adjustment to a refund using the math error method
if the amount claimed is in error for any reason.

So Phil,

I had a client this week who received $18.50. Do I use $18
or $19?

Default Advance Payments of CTC

I had my VITA computer training yesterday and learned that
you must get the amount of the prebate to the dollar or the
return will reject. It's going to be a LONG filing season.
