The answer lies in whether the payment of the filing fee was
a tax deductible expense.

Default Are reimbursed Minnesota concilliation court fees taxable income?

Under the Minnesota Concilliation Court system, a plaintiff
pays a $50 filing fee. If the plaintiff prevails, the
defendent pays the judgement plus reimburses $50 filing fee
to the plaintiff. I've searched the IRS site and cannot
find any information which clearly indicates if the
reimbursement of the filing fee is taxable income?
