I don't think you are allowed to file a Sch-C with a 1040EZ.
You have to use a Form 1040.

Well now. No Wonder!

One doesn't use a 1040EZ t report business income.

Use 1040, regular strength, instead.

This may be your problem. With Schedule C income, you need
the 1040 (long form). For data entry into Turbo Tax, you
might need to enter the date from the 1099MISC into a work
sheet which should automatically transfer the amount to the
correct line on Sch. C. You would also need the Form 1040 if
any of the scholarship is taxable.

Hope this helps.

That might be your problem. You would need a 1040 to enter
this information.

Maybe I'm just doing something stupid since this is the
first time I've ever tried doing my return myself (I used to
make alot). Here's the steps I go through.

1) Go to www.turbotax.com and select 1040EZ (or any of the
other ones, I still have same problem) and start a new
return.

2) Enter all my personal information.

3) On the W-2 screen, I click "Skip Form W-2" since I don't
have ANY w-2s.

4) The next page is about Interest Income, Unemployment
Benefits, or Scholarships, so I leave all that blank and
click Next.

At this point it tells me I'm done, I had no income so I
don't need to file and I don't get a return. At no point
was there a Schedule C entry, or any line that said
"business income". By the way, this income is from my job
as a tutor. I work for an agency that offers at-home
tutoring services. People call them saying "I need someone
to help my child with math or english", etc and they send me
over. The people pay them, and they pay me.

It's possible that the problem is that I simply can't do it
with the online program in which case that's fine. I just
thought it woudl be easier that way.

These should go where it says "business income". There
should be a Schedule C entry. Possibly, if it was a
one-time deal it would go under "other income". That, too,
is a separate line. Neither of these go under W2 income.

Yes it does.

Take a look at Schedule C.

For a self-employed person, that would be about $400 of
profit. At that point, SE tax kicks in

Your income may make your ineligible for free file. If your
income on that 1099 is over $400, you MUST file.

Default 1099-MISC

Does anyone have any experience entering these into say, an
online tax program like the TurboTax online? It doesn't
give me any place to enter the information. It just wants
me to enter a W-2 followed by "other income", but I don't
even HAVE a W-2. All I have is one 1099-MISC. Heck, maybe
I don't even need to file because the income is so low on it
anyway (I'm a college student). Speaking of which, what IS
the threshold so that anyone earning below that amount need
not pay any tax?

Thanks
