After thought: Make certain that your state doesn't have
the same problem. If it does, some states have a FOUR year
period instead of three, so act quickly.

Sorry, Carol, the statue ran out on 4-15-2003.
Ergo, no refund check.

THREE YEARS after the return was due, that expired on
4-15-2003

let me get this straight. Due date for 1999 return was
4/15/2000. plus three years = "4/15/2003". Today
is...... January 13, 2004.

(still thinking.....)

By waiting until now to file for 1999, you have FORFEITED
any refund due you. The limit is 3 years after the due date
of the return, which expired on 4-15-2003. Sorry about that.

Did you file a 1999 tax return before 15Apr03? Can you prove
it? If so, you'll get your refund (with interest). If not,
you won't.

No refund. The return must have been in by mid April 2003
to meet the 3 year rule to get the refund.

Unless you owe back taxes or child support or a few other
things that would cause your refund to be held back, you
should get a refund check.

Yes,

1. They will appreciate the fact that you have finally
filed your return.

2. They will not however refund you the 1600$ since it's
just a wee bit too late.

Basically, thank you for giving to the budget crunch. You
will not receive your refund. Sorry, you had until 4/15/03
to get any 1999 refunds.

Probably no refund. There is a two year statute on refund
claims.

Default Tax refund for prior year

I am only now filing for tax year 1999. Somehow, IRS says
they have no copy of my return on file, and I had to file
now. My return shows a refund amount of $1600. My question
is whether IRS will send the refund check even the return is
several years late. Anyone know exactly what is likely to
happen? Thanks.
