I think I will hold onto this idea until I end up with a killer tax bill- like inheritance- and then use it to reduce that. I don't have a particular need for that at this time. thanks, Don << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Read IRC Section 170(f) carefully. Then note all the> to a historic trust to keep the facade of a property > historically accurate? private letter rulings and such that let taxpayers get away with pushing the limits of this and all the Tax Court cases that slap taxpayers silly even when their situations are practically identical to those described in the PLRs (except that they weren't the taxpayer named therein), yet the Court denies the deduction. One suggestion: If the property doesn't have historical status with the government (federal, state, or local, as appropriate to its historical claim), I wouldn't even try it until such status had been granted. [I'm familiar with that because about 7 of my neighbors have a locally granted status because of the architect who designed their houses.] << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
