The rule for the deductibility of educational expenses,
including mileage, is that it must be to maintain or further
your skills in your current occupation. In your case, it is
a NEW occupation and thus does not qualify.

Default Workmans comp and retraining

I have started a vocational re-training school after a
workman's comp injury and have a few questions. The state
(FL) is paying tuition and books but I am wondering if I
could deduct mileage. The school is roughly 3 miles each way
from where I live and mileage would add up.

I am wondering what or if any deductutions I could claim. In
2002 my income has been Workman's Comp and unemployment so
I expect to have a Minimum income this year.

Thanks for any advice.
