Have her get with a tax preparer who is familiar with the
US/Canadian tax treaty and US taxes.

Default US Resident living in Canada

I am enquiring about a friend who is an American citizen
living in Canada for the past 30 years whose husband is a
Canadian. She has not filed any American tax returns since
she left the United States to live in Canada about thirty
years ago.

She wants to file with the IRS and bring her records up to
date but has received mixed responses about how far back she
would have to file. The only US income she has received is
some money paid out to her from her deceased mothers
retirement account.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
