Susquehanna County is in Pennsylvania, not New Jersey.

Are we to understand that the 40 acres are in Susquehanna
Co., PA, and not New Jersey?

You should eventually receive a "notice of appraisement"
from the Pa. Dept. of Revenue advising you if any additional
inheritance tax is due.

After that, assuming that there is no federal estate tax due
(and no Pa. estate tax due to any unused state death tax
credit), then at a minimum:

1. The executor should execute a deed distributing the 40
acres to the appropriate beneficiary under the will. The
deed should be filed with the Susquehanna Recorder of Deeds,
along with a transfer tax affidavit, Form REV-183, which you
can download from the Pa. Dept. of Revenue. (There is no
transfer tax due on a distribution from an estate, and there
is an exception on the form that can be checked.)

2. The executor should file a status report with the
Register of Wills of Susquehanna County reporting that the
estate has been distributed.

It's not clear from your post if your Mother's estate is
large enough to file a federal estate tax return. If so,
you might also have a PA estate tax issue and should consult
with a tax pro regarding that.

Also, just because the tax papers have been filed, until and
unless you execute a new deed, the property will remain in
her Mother's name; see an attorney for that help - a deed is
not a do-it-yourself deal.

Default Pennsylvania taxes for non-resident on death estate

Mother lived and died in Jersey. She owned 40 acres of just
land, that didn't generate any revenue, but worth almost
$40,000.

I registered her will with the Susquehanna Court House. Sent
in the Non-resident Inheritance tax form, with Sch A and
paper work showing fair market value of the land and
payment. Since no revenue was generated no state income tax
needed to be filed. Paid her yearly property taxes.

I live in Jersey and have filed the tax paper work for
Federal & Jersey. Is there anything else I need to file for
a non-resisdent death estate for Pennsylvania?

Thanks EdPaolo
