If he wants to reimburse you for some of these non business
expenses, who are we to argue? Take the money and run (so
to speak)

However......... keep copies of the expense sheets so you
can segregate those personal expenses reimbursed and report
a corresponding amount as other income on your 1040. But if
the reimbusement is included in your W-2 income, then it's
other way around, you need to know which expense are
deductible.

Default Personal expenses as business expenses to avoid taxes. Please Help!

I am a software consultant working for a company based in
Illinois. I work at a client company in california. My
employer is asking me to send my expenses as business
expenses and prepare an expense sheet. He says that this is
very beneficial for lower taxes for both the company and me
too. So basically, he asked me to send my personal cell
phone bill, gas bills, any personal air travel, any
lunch/dinner bills not exceeding (Lunch 10$) and (Dinner
20$).

However, I am concerned that this might not be legal as
these are all personal expenses and cannot be termed as
business expenses.

Please advise.

Thanks
