If she filed a tax return in the host country that is best;
next best is some sort of paystubs showing foreign country
withholdings; next best is any kind of third party
statements showing pay as "compensation" (so she may be able
to claim foreign income exclusion).

Default Documenting Foreign Employer Income/Deductions

My wife and I were married in 2001, but she remained a
non-resident alien until this year. She is now a legal
resident.

We want to amend the 2001 and 2002 taxes to claim resident
status for tax purposes, but that then requires that we
include her income. All of her employers during this period
are foreign and they have differ-ent reporting requirements
to their national tax authority.

What could we need to provide to the IRS (in case they ever
ask) in order to document her income during this time?

I tried the IRS website, but it wasn't any help.

Thanks,
Greg Marlowe
