The maximum federal estate tax credit for state death taxes,
which was based the taxable estate and a table of
progressive rates found in section 2011, was reduced by 25%
in 2002, 50% in 2003, 75% in 2004, and is repealed for
estates of decedents dying after 2004. (After 2004, there
is a deduction for any state death tax paid.)

According to my sources, Colorado's estate tax will remain
equal to the federal credit, so there will be no Colorado
estate tax after 2004.

Default Colorado Estate Tax Question

I remember reading a year or so ago, that because of the
federal esate tax phase-out of the state estate tax credit,
Colorado was considering how to revise / update their state
estate tax laws. Can someone answer the following two
questions:

1. When does the federal phase-out of the state estate tax
credit occur?

2. What tax rate(s) will Colorado apply to their state
estate tax?

TIA, Ron
