The mileage would be a very small amount, but aren't you
reimbursed for it along with the retraining?

Unemployment is taxable, but workman's comp isn't. See IRS
Publication 525.

Worker's Comp is not taxable. Social Security could become
taxable if 1/2 your social security + your other income
exceeds $32,000. Unemployment income is taxable. I cannot
respond to the retraining portion of your question. I doubt
that it is taxable. Expenses related to training for
employment in a new line of work are not deductible.

Default Workmans comp and unemployment ?

I was injured on the job in December of last year and have
been on workman's comp and unemployment all year.

The state of Florida is paying for retraining and I am
wondering what if any of the money I have received this year
would be taxable?

I am married with one teenager and my wife is on S.S.
disability. I know that money has been taken out for taxes
on my unemployment but none was taken from workman's comp.

I also wonder if I could deduct mileage( about 3 miles each way ) to and
from school?

Sorry for the rambling and thanks for any advice.
