Re my reply to OP in which I advised collecting only the 4%
state tax.

Paul's answer to also collect county tax as being from the
DOR contradicts what they told me years ago. (Don't ask
when! lol)

From that simple description, it sounds as if you only have
to charge GA sales tax to those in Georgia. However, if
your vendors directly ship to your customers, there may be
quirks in the various laws that indicate that sales tax
needs to be collected on those transactions too - where
customers are in the same state(s) as the vendor shipping to
them (even if it's not Georgia).

Only charge those Georgia customers the state's four percent.
(Thank God for that!)

Right now, I've been trying to buy some imprinted pencils
from Oregon, and they want to charge me 8% sales tax. Well,
first of all, Oregon doesn't even have a state sales tax,
but perhaps it's a local sales tax. Certainly though, even
a local sales tax would have an exmption (like most all
states I know) for out of state shipments.

Considering I will also have to pay 4% Alabama use tax, that
12% is just too darn much.

I'll answer your question based on my knowledge of Colorado
Sales Tax rules.

You are licensed at your physical location (home office).
You collect tax from customers for any jurisdiction which
you have in common.

Yes.

Only those who reside in Georgia (or more specicically, when
Georgia is the destination of the goods sold)

Generally for your county. That's the practical
application. The technical reading of the law makes you
ask, and charge by the county of the purchaser. But as I
said earlier, the practical application is to charge for and
collect based on your county tax rate. (This from the DOR)

Default Do I have to charge my customers state sales tax?

I have an e-commerce website that sells goods that I obtain
from various vendors. I do not have a storefront, and
operate my business from a Georgia home office. Do I have
to charge sales tax to customers who buy my goods? If so,
all customers, or only those who reside in GA? If so, do I
charge them the sales tax for my county, or theirs? Thanks
in advance.
