As I understand it, all returns would be available in that> the preparer files? Or only those that were efiled? system. My guess is that the IRS wouldn't be able internally to separate out the efiled from the non-efiled returns in that system, so even if they wanted to limit the access, I suspect they couldn't do it. -- Ed Zollars, CPA Phoenix, Arizona << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

ANY return, e-filed or not, prepared by you or not. This> the preparer files? Or only those that were efiled? will circumvent the PPS and the 15 day wait. You just need the POA. Same vein - E-services registration is open for all to sign up for - just go to the e-services area of IRS.GOV (tax pros area). And in about a month or so, if you efile 100 or more individual returns, you can sign up to receive your transcripts on-line and you will get them back in about as long as it took me to type this. | To whomever answered by email, thank you so much. This lady has been a client since 1982 and I've watched her deal gallantly with life and pain for over 20 years. Some clients reach the heart. Thank you Barney. Yes, you can obtain copies of the client''s 2001 and 2002> has been reported? If there is a form or web site I've > lost the information myself. information returns from IRS. There is no charge for the copies. IRS maintains six years of Forms W-2 / 1099, etc., returns in its information returns database at any given time. Currently, years 1997 through 2002 are available. In July of each year, the oldest year is purged and the newest one gets added. This past July, 1996 was dropped while 2002 was added. The process of adding the most recent year takes place incrementally between July and October. By the end of October, all 2002 information returns should have been posted. In order to get the copies yourself, you will need a power of attorney (Form 2848) or a tax information authorization (Form 8821) on file with IRS. You can contact the Practitioner Priority Hotline (PPHL) to have them mailed or you can visit your local IRS walk-in office with your Form 2848 or 8821 in hand and ask the customer service reps to print them out for you. | I have an 82 year old client who has been a packrat for years. She always has trouble finding 1099s and other records and currently hasn't filed 2001 nor 2002. Her son and daughter-in-law descended on her last month and seem to have cleared out all the clutter - including her records. And are not accounting for them. Can I apply somewhere in the IRS to get a list of what has been reported? IF there is a form or web site I've lost the information myself.
