For security reasons, my internet connection has always been
on Macs only.

For all business applications, I use only windows programs
(on a PC).

I don't have any conversion programs, so I'm not even
tempted to moves files between the Mac and the PC.

No virus or related problems on either platform (so far).

For me it's not "Windows vs. Mac". I use each of them for
what they are best at.

People in business have to live with what can be done in the
real world. Given the size of the Microsoft installed base,
I doubt any government action can change things now. We
will have to wait till the next wave of new technology.

I have informed students for years about how the Reagan FTC
got the AICPA to cower on the commissions, referral fees,
and contingent fees issues. I'd like to credit Bill Gates
with having more backbone, but it was more likely deeper
pockets.

One of the many prohibitions in this newsgroup is attacking
other professionals or firms. Microsoft's absence of
quality security of its users does NOT quality for that
protection.

Illustrating, IMHO, the immense damage done to the world by
Microsoft's monopoly power, and the failure of the Justice
Department to carry the antitrust suit against Microsoft to
its full conclusion.

(This is of course aside from the equally immense damage
done by the "hack attacks" made possible by the totally
inadequate security of the Windows operating system and
certain Microsoft applications.)

I suspect the more likely direction someone would look right
now is to Linux--but Linux and the Mac OS share a similar
problem. That is, industry specific vertical applications
for the desktop are almost all Windows specific. So while I
can get very good general purpose software for Linux or the
Mac (spreadsheets, word processors, etc.), when I start
looking for things like professional tax preparation
packages or time and billing systems, my options are either
nonexistent or much more constrained in those other
operating systems.

Default Windows vs. Mac

I've generally noted that financial services seems to be a
Windows world, but I'm wondering if there are any Mac users
out there. Has anyone switched to Mac, especially with the
various Windows security issues that have cropped up? I'm
interested in hearing from both Mac and Windows enthusiasts.

(This may be for an article, but I will not quote anyone in
this group without obtaining permission.)
