Sounds good to me, if the other seven days are mostly
traveling to the next interview and not just sight-seeing.
So keep good records on itinerary. Get Publication 463 from
www.irs.gov. Has good stuff in actual plain language, and
says how much sight-seeing you can do and how to handle the
weekend days.

Looks good to me, provided that your former employer's
competitors are actually located in western Europe. If
you're apply to European branches of American companies,
it doesn't look good, although it may still hold up.

However, please reply in newsgroup.

Likely, YES!!!

"You may deduct travel expenses, including meals and
lodging, you had in looking for a new job in your present
trade or business. You may not deduct these expenses if you
had them while looking for work in a new trade or business
or while looking for work for the first time. If you are
unemployed and there is a substantial break between the time
of your past work and your looking for new work, you may not
deduct these expenses, even if the new work is in the same
trade or business as your previous work."

Default Job hunting expenses

I was involuntarily retired in August at age 56. I going
to take a trip to western Europe to interview with some
of my former employer's competitors. I'll arrange seven
appointments over a two week period and have my airfare
paid. Most of my expenses will be lodging, meals, trains,
and possibly a car rental.

Will these be deductible on my 2003 tax return?
