I do sign the authorizations allowing them to obtain my tax records. I guess they figure if they're doing that, why bother with a copy of the returns. As a matter of procedure, you sign a form 4506 which gives> to my tax records and they informed me that nobody can > access my records. Well, one time I got away with telling the bank that since> to my tax records and they informed me that nobody can > access my records. How does a mortgage company verify > whether your return is valid? we both knew I could put anything I wanted on the tax return I gave them, lets skip it altogether. But I knew the loan officer and she knew I was a CPA. I have had cases where the lending institution has sent me a copy of a return provided to them by a tax client asking me to verify that it was indeed the return I prepared. And I have heard that they can send a copy of a return submitted by the borrower to the IRS and ask for confirmation that it is indeed the return that was filed. I can only guess that mortgage companies would be leery of self prepared returns that involved much more than W-2's, 1099's and K-1's that they can get copies of. Per the disclosure authorization you might have signed> to my tax records and they informed me that nobody can > access my records. How does a mortgage company verify > whether your return is valid? buried amongst the application process at the mortgage company, The IRS is developing an automation system to make it quick & easy for financial Institutions to validate information on the mortgage application, this does not mean full access all return information or accounts status << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
