Since it sounds like you don't/won't have employees, you
don't need one for employment tax purposes. And assuming
you're NOT talking about a corporation, you still dont need
one just to be a proprietor.

However, there is still a case for getting one. And that is
that SOME banks require one in order to open a business
checking account.

However, if you're just a small proprietor, don't tell the
bank you are one and get one of those free checking accounts
if your bank features same, e.g. for senior citizens?

No, it does not include self employment taxes. Employment
taxes would be taxes withheld or paid on behalf of
employees--federal withholding, federal unemployment, Social
Security, Medicare and the matching Social
Security/Medicare.

Default Trying to determine if I need an EIN

Reading IRS pub 583, I'm trying to determine if I need to
get an EIN or not. I don't fall under several of the items
listed as to whether I need one, but not sure about "#4 A)
File returns for: employment taxes"

It's not clear to me what is meant by "file returns for
employment taxes". Does that include self employment taxes?
Can anyone clarify what this means?

Any other insight on the issue of an EIN will be appreciated.

Thanks!
