Cash or deposit it because the tax credit check was based on
the child you claimed on your 2002 tax return.

It is my understanding that if you get a check and it ends
up that you are not a child tax credit for 2003 you will not
be reuired to pay it back.

It is my understanding that if it is later determined that
you are not entitled to a child tax credit in 2003 you will
not be required to return the advance credit.

Put it in the bank, because I have not heard of any
provision that indicates that you would have to return it
(just like that "rebate" of 2 years ago).

Since death certificates automatically update Social
Security's records now, and SSA gives IRS some minimal info,
if you weren't supposed to get one, then the IRS shouldn't
have sent it.

Cash the check and accept my deepest sympathies.
"Erroneous" advance payments do not have to be returned.

Sorry to hear of your loss. The money is yours, you will
not have to repay it. Do what your heart says to do with it.

My only child died in 2002. I received a 2003 Child Tax
Credit advance check. What should I do with the check?
