Yesterday I posted a message about Memphis Service center sending their annual letter asking for form 8453's what they "alledgely didn't get". Well, I KNOW I sent them. Today I looked at that letter again, since an IRS Quick alert was in my email this morning talking about the difference between efile signatures and form 8453's. Guess what? in the bottom right of that letter, just where the signature block is, was "Letter 2797". This letter of course had nothing to do with correct address as the original poster mentioned. So, maybe Letter 2797 is the generic number for any letter written that is not a form letter. You reckon? If possible, could you quote significant parts of the letter while at the same time "whiting out" any identifying data? Special attention to information in upper right hand corner of the letter.
