| My response was of a general nature, for information to the many vistors to this site. It was not a criticism of your question or responses. The particular rules of each state plan (deductible, or not) would seem to me to very important in the choice of which to use and may be just as important to the plan participant as ROI. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Here are some reasons:> I live in Illinois and I have read that my state does > not offer a good plan and other people are picking from > other states. I know I get state tax benefits if I > choose the Illinois plan and none if I select out of > state. Does anyone know why people are choosing other > state plans and losing out on the state tax benefits? 1. Investment performance varies by plan. 2. Type and quality of investments are different. 3. Maximum and minimum contributions differ by plan. 4. Fee structures are different. Section 529 Plans are an investment; you would choose one> I live in Illinois and I have read that my state does > not offer a good plan and other people are picking from > other states. Ask your investment advisor. It's probably an investment> I live in Illinois and I have read that my state does > not offer a good plan and other people are picking from > other states. | I am getting ready to set up a 529 college savings plan. I live in Illinois and I have read that my state does not offer a good plan and other people are picking from other states. I know I get state tax benefits if I choose the Illinois plan and none if I select out of state. Does anyone know why people are choosing other state plans and losing out on the state tax benefits? Thanks << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
