I eventually decided this was not a trivial form and sent it off to the accountant. He filled it out and sent it back to me for signature. While I trust his work, I like to fully understand everything I sign. Why does the IRS tell you (in the instructions), quite unconditionally, to get an EIN for the Plan Administrator? Is there a secret "for accountants only" instruction book which tells you to ignore the published instructions? | I need a "third opinion" here. We've had this paired Money Purchase / Profit Sharing plan for 5 years, but this will be the first year we're supposed to file Form 5500EZ. I'm somewhat baffled by question 3a (Administrator's EIN) and also on the Schedule P, question 2b (Trust's employer identification number). The Administrator and the Trustee are both the same individual. The Trust is a prototype trust plan from a fund company and does not have its own EIN. Do I really need to create four new EINs in order to file these forms? The IRS is not letting me create more than one EIN online... It says the entity already has an EIN. The IRS rep on the phone was of no help ("I don't know. I only issue new EINs, sir!"). Our accountant said, just use the corporation's EIN everywhere. Does this sound right??? << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
