What "huge costs" would go away? Who do you think pays to
gather all the data that goes into the computer models? Who
pays for the software and hardware? What portion of total
NWS costs do you think is incurred by actually generating
the forecast vs gathering the data?

Default Big tax savings just around the corner. Comuterized Weather Forecasts reducing size of the National Weather Service.

How soon before the computer issues the forecast on its own
and through animated graphics have a animated weather person
present the forecast on television.

Computers can already email the forecast, put the forecast
on the radio, send the forecast as a fax.

Because there is little manual labor in issueing a weather
forecast it seems to be a field ripe for total computer
automation...and a big savings for tax payers.

There are several private companies waiting to take over
from the Federal National Weather Service. There is no
reason that Weather Forecasts need to be issued by the
Federal Government, Forecasting should be put out for
bidders.

These huge costs must come down.
