You'll get responses posted here to your specific question,
but you would do well to get IRS Pub 521 "Moving Expenses".
That publication may have answers to questions you haven't
thought to ask.

Nope!!!=

On line 2, enter the amount you paid for travel and lodging
expenses in moving from your old home to your new home. Do
not include the cost of meals.

On line 1, enter the amount you paid for transportation and
storage of household goods and personal effect.

'n' that's all there is!!! Just read the instructions on Form 3903.

No, pre-move househunting trips are non-deductible. See IRS
Pub 521 for the details of what is deductible and what is
not.

IRS Pub 521 explains what's deductible and it says only one
trip is deductible. Sorry.

No. That's a househunting trip, and it's not deductible.
See Publication 521.

Default moving expenses question

I have a question about what exactly can be deducted as
moving expenses on form 3903.

When I moved to Santa Barbara last year I had to make an
extra trip there two weeks BEFORE the actual move just to
rent an apartment. My question is: can I deduct the expenses
related to this trip such as the plane ticket, the hotel
bill and the car rental?
