In Tools-> Options-> Backup I suggest checkingx Automatically backup to hard disk on exit x Prompt me before backing up each time* x Make my file small ... Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. I suggest use of a USB Flash drive also. They typically act like a big floppy. Set that to back up maybe once per week. * This has two advantages. You can change the file name occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money040728. Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The ..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box. |

| a) don't rely on floppies - go for something inherently more reliable - memory sticks perhaps? b) five disks is not enough! You could easily be into round two before you find you have a corrupt file and all your backups are of that corrupt file. c) I personally backup to hard disk every time I update and then once a week go out to removable media and not floppies ;-) -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Now I use Canadian banks and the majority of Canadian banks are not set up to use Money's online services. Instead I have to go to the bank's website and download the transactions manually. When I do this Money detects the download. The errors and restarts that I experience are experienced from any of the three banks that I download information from. The only time I do not get errors and restarts from new transactions is when I manually enter the transactions for what I call my "Cash Account" Where I keep track of my cash spending. | I have MS MONEY 2004, but I am finding that when I try to download my transactions manually from my bank the program needs to restart. When I restart the account shows that it downloaded the information and shows the correct account balance......... BUT the transactions do not appear. When I try to download again it crashes. Based on what I mentioned do I need to reinstall? Is my data file corrupted? Will I lose my data? Thanks for all your help you can give me!! I am a dumby and did not back up! Maybe I will start when I get this figured out. I looked through the FAQ but did not see anything that matched up with what I am experiencing. I did make a test file and downloaded all the transactions without a problem. It seems the only time I experience a restart is when there are new transactions!! When there are no new ones to download it works fine, but I still am not able to see the transactions I have made this I started to experience this. Do you have any other suggestions? Donnie ----------------------------- I have used SALV.EXE and ran it a couple of times. I ran it until it said there are no more errors. However, once I loaded the fixed file and downloaded my transactions from the website, I encountered the errors again. The running SALV.EXE on the file I just used, I do see again, one error in the log. Anyone seen this before? Donnie |
