It is possible that there may have been an Internet update to M2002 that makes it look like your backup was made by a newer version. Without trying to restore the backup try doing an update first and see if that helps. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. Use the same password you used for the Money file> The difference is I made the .mbf with money 2002 and I'm > trying to restore it with the same version and it asks for > a password. You could try the free trial to see if that works for you.If you do, check to see if Money 2004 creates a *.m10 file when it converts the old file. If so, Money 2004 found that it really was a Money 2002 file that it converted.

Hi Cal, I'm having the same problem that Diesel Driver is having. The difference is I made the .mbf with money 2002 and I'm trying to restore it with the same version and it asks for a password. I never remember setting a password for backups. IOt's attached to my passport, but I know my passport is working, because I can log in on the web. Do I have to upgrade to 2004 too? Thanks - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Diesel Driver wrote: > > I had a major failure of the hard drive that contains my > > operating system (XP Professional) > > > I replaced the drive reinstalled the operating system and > > Money 2000 Personal and Business. > > > Money files were kept on separate drive that was not > > affected by OS drive failure. > > > I am unable to open Money files or restore Back-ups. There was one more *.m* file created. What was that one?> Existing password worked after conversion to Money 2004. > File type created are: > *.mny for basic working file > *.mbf for back-up > *.lrd file type not previously created, showing zero bytes. > That file extension is unknown to me.

Trial version recovered data (excluding Money Business relate). Existing password worked after conversion to Money 2004. File type created are: *.mny for basic working file *.mbf for back-up *.lrd file type not previously created, showing zero bytes. That file extension is unknown to me. Thanks for helping me recover my data. Guess I'll have to upgrade to Money 2004 Personal and Business. Not part of this year's business plan. Diesel Driver

Do you have a *.mn8 file on that drive with your Money file? - quote - > I have nearly 10 years of data in money and archived fiels.
A later version -- even the Money 2004 Deluxe free trial would> Am I cooked or is there a way to recover these files. probably read that file. In the process of converting your existing file, the backup file filename would tell you what version Money thinks that file is. However the Deluxe version would not have the business features. Please tell us what you ultimately find-- particularly in regard to a *.mn8, *.mn9, *.m10 etc file that you might see in due course. |

I had a major failure of the hard drive that contains my operating system (XP Professional) I replaced the drive reinstalled the operating system and Money 2000 Personal and Business. Money files were kept on separate drive that was not affected by OS drive failure. I am unable to open Money files or restore Back-ups. Money requests a password and the password used does not work. I have nearly 10 years of data in money and archived fiels. Am I cooked or is there a way to recover these files. HELP !?
