| I used the System File Checker but it came up clean. Before I went to a full OS re-install I tried to selectively restore ATL.DLL, which was definitely not on my system. Hurray... that was the missing link!!! I'm not sure why I did not get caught by System File Checker, but all's well that ends well. Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice! - quote - > -----Original Message----- > It is possible that atl.dll is installed with money and that is why it > comes and goes installing and uninstalling money. | It is possible that atl.dll is installed with money and that is why it comes and goes installing and uninstalling money. I would run System Information which is really msinfo32.exe Here's the path: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE" You may have to install it from your Win32 install disk using Add Programs. Start System Information, or from Run, the above path, and click Tools from the menu bar. Then click System File Checker... click Settings check boxes Deleted Files & Changed Files. Prompt for backup. The defaults should be okay. This will verify every system program that should be on your system. Do NOT restore any older programs over newer programs. Select Ignore. You can restore any missing programs. By older / newer programs I am talking about the version number and not the date time stamp. If in doubt, select Ignore. If this does not resolve the problem I would next undo or restore all the Spyware changes on the theory that you changed one too many things. The System Registry is a barrel of snakes. Let us know how it goes. arthur -- On Sun, 20 Jun 2004 21:13:38 -0700, "S Thompson" wrote: - quote - > Yes, the OS is old but the machine is still pretty good (a > 1 GHz box) and meets all the M04 requirements. You will normally not have to reinstall applications afterwards. You might want to check with others about the advisability, but it is what I think I would do. |

| Yes, the OS is old but the machine is still pretty good (a 1 GHz box) and meets all the M04 requirements. M04 ran fine before I got the Spyware infestation. It stopped working after I recovered from that problem. I am beginning to suspect the spyware problem and cleanup has resulted in some of my system files going missing or getting corrupted. The Money installation instructions suggest that missing or outdated system files will be upgraded in the installation process but maybe that is only the case for certain system files. The ATL.DLL error message only shows up when I boot up after installing M04. When I uninstall it goes away. My understanding is that ATL.DLL is a system dll that should be on my machine but it isn't. - quote - > -----Original Message-----

| S, Considering your 98SE platform, please post back with additional detail on your system and M04 install. Does your system meet the other "requirements" for M04 install? What is the path to the new directory you installed to? Were you running M04 OK on this platform before the spyware? Thanks. Looking forward to your response. | I am using Windows 98SE. I tried reinstalling to a new directory but it did not help. After I reinstall, I start getting an error message when I boot up about not being able to load ATL.DLL. When I uninstall, this boot up message goes away. The only messgae I get when I actually try and run Money is that it is not installed correctly. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Bill, > When you reinstalled, did you install to the same Program Files folder > as your prior/existing install? > Try uninstalling Money, reboot, then either delete old Money folder in > Program Files before reinstall OR reinstall to different location than > before. | Bill, When you reinstalled, did you install to the same Program Files folder as your prior/existing install? Try uninstalling Money, reboot, then either delete old Money folder in Program Files before reinstall OR reinstall to different location than before. Reboot and login as same user you installed as. Run Money and see if problem is gone. If you run Money logged in as a different user than you installed log in as that user and check again. Post back with comments or results. Good Luck! | I have the same problem. I'm using Money 2002 Standard on XP. Everytime I turn the PC on and click Money it automatically goes into an install process. Once I've installed the app it runs fine. I have also tried "reinstalling" money but that doesn't work. Bill - quote - > -----Original Message-----

| I had a problem with spyware getting onto my machine and causing havoc. I managed to clean it up with Spybot and a few other tools, but now when I go to run MS Money 2004 I get an error message saying the Money is not installed correctly. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Money but it did not help. The uninstall process worked and the reinstall process worked (no error messages) but I still get a "Money is not installed correctly" pop up when I try to run it. Does anyone have any insight about how to fix this? Thanks! |
