Default Re: upgrading 60 day trial

Does the Canadian Version handle Investments? I too am
currently trying the trial version. I am just confused
about investments and if I will need to buy the US Deluxe
version, and where to buy it here in Canada.

You probably have a problem I fear.

The trial you ran is probably Money 2004 Deluxe for USA. It only
knows how to do USA files.

The Canadian version will look at the regional settings on your
computer to decide whether to behave in USA or Canadian mode.
Assuming your computer is set up for Canadian settings, I expect a
problem when you try to open your existing .mny file.

What you want to do BEFORE uninstalling your Money 2004 Deluxe trial
is to File-> Export a loose QIF file from each existing account.

The QIF files containing the investment cash accounts (f any)
should be named something alphanumerically higher than the
investment transactions of the account. So you could have
"Merrill" and "Merrill Cash", but you would not want "Merrill Inv"
and "Merrill Cash". "_Merrill Inv" and "Merrill Cash" would be
good. So one way around this is to export investment accounts to
files who's name starts with an underscore.

After you have exported each account, you can uninstall the old
version.

Install the Money 2004 Canadian. Try to File-> Open the existing
Money file, if the install does not do so automatically. If it
works, GREAT! Post that my fears were unfounded. If it does not
work, create a new file. In that file do File-> Import of the QIF
files you saved.

To avoid transfers from turning into two separate transactions, it
is important to import the QIFs into the new file all at once.
This is done by selecting using Ctrl+<click> to highlight all of
the files you want included.

be helpful, but it does not tell you about the investment cash
accounts thing.

Your data is stored in the *.mny file not the program. So you can
uninstall.reinstall to your hearts content.

Just to be paranoid make another copy of the *.mny file in a different
location on your hard disk.

Default upgrading 60 day trial

I've been using the 60 day trial for a few weeks and just
tried to install Money 2004 Canadian. It says that I have
to unistall the trial version before I can install the new
version. I don't want to lose all the work I've done to
date. Any suggestions? Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
nancy
