You might try one of the XP groups.> I have an "image" of the entire drive done Sunday evening. > If I knew the name and location of the Registry file(s) I > could recover just that file as it was Sunday. Not normally. Formatting with the install does lose everything, and> would require reinstalling everything. Do I have that > right? you would need to reinstall all. |

| Hi Cal, System Restore doesn't work so I uninstalled it months ago. I have an "image" of the entire drive done Sunday evening. If I knew the name and location of the Registry file(s) I could recover just that file as it was Sunday. Now I know anything I installed or modified since then would have to be reinstalled. That wouldn't be hard. If I understand correctly, reinstalled the OS, WinXP Pro, would require reinstalling everything. Do I have that right? Thanks Bob - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Bob wrote: > > Darn, 2003 won't open either. I'm guessing it must be > > something in the Registry. | Darn, 2003 won't open either. I'm guessing it must be something in the Registry. How would I find someone who knows the Registry? - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Bob wrote: > > I did try the salv.exe to no avail. > > > If I can get my 2003 Money up and running, would the .mil > > file automatically open when clicked or do I have to > > rename it. > I don't know. | I don't have access to a second computer so it will be a rebuild process. I'll rename the mil file if I get Money 2003 running. Between the mil file and my bank keeping 3 months on file I will only have to reconsturct 3 months. I'm going to Quicken. If 2003 works on the mil file I'll save it in a quicken format and go from there. When I did the most recent install of 2004 it raised warnings about ZoneAlarm as well as NAV 2004. It is a real pain but you have been a great help. Thank you. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Bob wrote: > > I did try the salv.exe to no avail. > > > If I can get my 2003 Money up and running, would the .mil > > file automatically open when clicked or do I have to > > rename it. > I don't know. I don't know. I have always figured to copy it to a .mny name,> If I can get my 2003 Money up and running, would the .mil > file automatically open when clicked or do I have to > rename it. leaving the .m11 file intact in case I wanted it for a purpose. - quote - > I'm, slowly, accepting the fact I may have to reconstruct
Have you tried seeing if a different computer can open a more recent> my hand the past six months records. file? I don't know the mechanism, but it would be worth an experiment. |

| I did try the salv.exe to no avail. If I can get my 2003 Money up and running, would the .mil file automatically open when clicked or do I have to rename it. I'm, slowly, accepting the fact I may have to reconstruct my hand the past six months records. I really appreciate you help and guidance. No. Money saved a copy of your Money 2003 files as *.m11 when you> backwards compatable? converted. |

| Hi and thanks for the insights. I tried both of your suggestions but the result is the same. I even installed to a different drive for safety and used the renamed/salvage file as the start file by double clicking it. A question: I saved my 2003 CD. Are 2004 mny files backwards compatable? Also I might just buy Quicken rather than fight this thing. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Bob wrote: > > After years of no problem operation Money 2004 brings up a > > dialog box which says Money encounted a problem and was > > closing. > > My first thought was reinstall. | Hi Bob Your file is probably corrupted. Run "msmoney -s" without the quotes from the run command. If that doesn't work do a search for Salv.exe and run both phases. Make sure you save the repaired file with a different name. This may or may not help. You can try opening Money to the sample file by double-clicking sample.mny in Windows Explorer. Actually you hope you get the same problem indicating it is a problem with the install rather than your Money file. |

| After years of no problem operation Money 2004 brings up a dialog box which says Money encounted a problem and was closing. My first thought was reinstall. The Money CD started and then said there was a problem with Norton Antivirus. Neither MSFT or Norton's site revealed a solution. I uninstalled both Norton products. Uninstalled Money. I then reinstalled money. The Money reinstall did not bring up any warnings and appeared normal. However, w/o either Norton product installed Money returned the same error msg. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Bob |
