I'm running Win98SE and when downloading transactions I can not
minimize the process. Says they have some kind of software lock.
I can bring another process to the foreground so it isn't a totally
locked process.

One problem I see is their interfacing with so many different
institutions and customers complaining about timeouts and other
connect problems. So this could be their solution.

I do updates once a day on 3 different files and it doesn't take too
long. I have pared my stock Watch list to a realistic minimum.

I'd think it highly likely by now that Microsoft knows that it's doing this
and knows why. The fact that we don't know why does not mean that it is a
"bug" in the sense of coding defect. There clearly may be some design
issues.

Alan,

This is one of several longstanding bugs in Money which make me think about
switching after six years of use. It really leaves me wondering about the
quality of the development organization over there.

I should think it is fairly obviously a very tight CPU loop that is either a
bug or an appalling design or both. It is certainly normal or reasonable
behaviour for software.

I have been able to defeat it with a combination of a dual Opteron machine
and Money 2004. I had hoped that it had finally been fixed in 2004, but
apparently a dual CPU machine limits its damage.

I am starting to view Money as a fairly toxic product and am seriously
considering returning to Quicken.

regards,
Alan.

Yes, but no source code :-)

And it's been ages since I've had to debug assembler and reverse-engineer it
at the same time. I had hoped those days were behind me.

Got me. Got a debugger handy?

Default Money 2004: mis.exe High CPU (100%)

Ok, I know that mis.exe is something which Money (2004) uses to do
background Internet processing. But what the devil is it doing that takes up
100% of my 1.5 GHz CPU for substantial periods of time? I'm a software
developer and have trouble imagining any legitimate reason for such high CPU
utilization to be used by such a process.
