| Money's not smart enough to know it can't do it and tell you so. But it can't. You could export a QIF file from each account in Quicken and import> convert Quicken 2004 files? > I wonder what other options I might have. into a new Money file. To avoid transfers from turning into two separate transactions, it is important to import the QIFs into the new file all at once. This is done by selecting using Ctrl+<click> to highlight all of the files you want including. Further, before doing the import, the QIF files containing the investment cash accounts should be named something alphanumerically higher than the investment transactions of the account. So you could have "Merrill" and "Merrill Cash", but you would not want "Merrill Inv" and "Merrill Cash". "_Merrill Inv" and "Merrill Cash" would be good. So one way around this is to export investment accounts to files who's name starts with an underscore. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;178830 It may be too much work, but you would end up with a really clean Money file. |

| Scott, be aware that M2004 can only convert Q2003 and earlier. It's all to do with timing of the product releases. Based on previous history we should see M2005 sometime soon and that "ought" to convert Q2004. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Thanks Cal. Does that mean I should wait for Money 2005 to try to convert Quicken 2004 files? I wonder what other options I might have. | Thanks Steve. I only downloaded the trial version because I thought that it would be reasonable to try it before spending the money for Money. :-) Quicken isn't fixing my problems when I try to reconcile so I can not even balance my monthly checking statement. Very frustrating. Thanks for the encouragement. Can somebody please > show me how to make my transactions appear? Thanks. You say you are fed up with Quicken. Are you really fed up enough to switch to Microsoft Money? This is a key question that you need to answer first. You will have a learning curve with Money. Are you prepared to deal with it? The fact that you don't want to spend any money up front to purchase a real Money CD tells me you are just frustrated with Quicken and are looking for something better that won't cost too much money. Money is a good product for a cost of net $20+ a year. I have had it since 1995 and update annually. I really use it to manage my finances. I know very little about Quicken, but I assume it does a decent job also. The conversion module in Money is helpful but, you will need to fully understand how Money works and that will take time. I know I haven't answered your question. Others probably will, but remember, if you make the switch you will need to invest significant time in learning a new system. Good luck. Steve |

| I just downloaded the 60 day trial version of MS Money 2004 onto my PC that uses XP. I used the conversion wizard to convert my Quicken file. My account summaries show up as if they're normal on Money after the conversion, but when I open the checking account I get transactions in the amount of $0.00 without descriptions or anything else. The account summary is also zero dollars. I can't try out Money with this happening. But I'm fed up with Quicken. I also don't want to pay for support for a product that I haven't purchased. Can somebody please show me how to make my transactions appear? Thanks. |
