It seems to me that a : Tax Deferred Variable Annuity has a tax
basis for the ACCOUNT and not for the particular holdings within
that account. But that is as an observer, and not as a participant
or tax pro.

I suspect some note of your contributions in the account details, or
a report that you customize to record contributions into the account
would be a good way to track what you need.

I read that a portion of what you take out of the annuity is return
of principal. I don't know how that is calculated. Perhaps somebody
will have a good idea as to how to track things in Money, but I
don't remember anybody describing a technique.

So I would just do Buy and Sell transactions in the account until
you go to take distributions.

Typically people get sold annuities. Did your salesman tell you how
to do the taxes? If you can describe that, perhaps somebody can
suggest a good way to uses Money to help track the process.

Default Tax Deferred Variable Annuity

I have the above type of an account in Money 2003. The
original purchases were to a single investment fund. The
cost basis was recorded correctly. Now, I have transfer
part of the money to other investments in the same
account. I have tried several transactions but cannot
seem to maintain the original cost basis.

Is there a transaction process to properly handled this?

or

Is there a way to access the cost basis and manullay
correct?

Thanks for any assistance.
