I tried Quick Repair, Standard Repair, Level 2, and I
entered in the -s salvage string in the Run command.

Forgive my poor etiquette, as I also did a separate post,
thinking that this initial reply would not get seen so
quickly.

Do you mean you tried the Standard repair?

I started receiving this message yesterday, 6/21. Dell
was no help. They had me do a System Restore and an
uninstall/reinstall of MS Money 2004. And MS wants to
get paid to talk to a person! This pc is less than 2
mos. old. I'm turning to what has worked in the past,
users and experts.

I've also tried the Quick Repair and the -s option (Level
2) to repair the file, with no success. The log said
there were "no broken records in the original file," but
the newly named salvaged file had the same problem.

I opened a different file with no problem, which tells me
the issue is with my personal file. I have a backup from
earlier this month. Is this my last solution? And other
than having to do a lot of matching of records, what else
should I be looking for? And, finally, any idea what is
causing this? I never had this happen with earlier
versions of Money (99 & 02).

Thanks for help and insight!

I fixed this and one other problem I stumbled on while I was in there. I
don't know how I'd avoided both of these when testing. Others must have seen
them along the way. I hate it when I do stuff like that.

Thanks again to aimee for bringing this to my attention.

I get it to open, but I do see an issue. Looks like a new test case that
needs some evaluation. Next time I get a minute or two. Thanks for pointing
this out.

How odd! Here is most of the content.

Money says "This operation cannot be completed." What's up with that?
A) Money may also say "This operation cannot be performed." These messages
are most likely related to internal database problems and/or problems
related to specific scheduled transactions. For the former, your best bet is
to pursue the Money data file repair tools msmoney -s or salv.exe. (Also,
see the question "What is the -s option? What is the Super Salvage
utility?") Read more about these tools in the MSKB. Be sure you have backups
that really are before going down this path and/or work on a copy of your
file. In the latter case, try deleting and re-entering the scheduled
transaction.

Thanks to Derrick Cole for this answer.

then?"
