Sorry we couldn't help you get there. Please post back if we can help (or
try) in the future.

Try removing the Passport from the file on the original system. Then copy
the .MNY File over again. If that works, you can put the Passport back on
again.

You also might try doing an Internet Update on the sample file on the new
machine (to get any M02 patches). Then try opening the moved .MNY file.

Can you create another .MNY file in the same folder where you are putting
the moved file?

How are you moving the file? A network? Zip drive? Burning a CD? If you make
a new Money file on the old machine--just File|New and exit the setup wizard
and, maybe, cerate one account or something, and then move this file the
same way, will it open on the new machine?

You had said these machines both had Money installed from the same CD, IIRC?
Money Help|About on both systems reads exactly the same?

Assuming none of this reveals anything, I'd be thinking about opening a
support case directly with Microsoft. I'm at a loss why the file works on
one machine and wants a password on the other, assuming we've cleared all of
the above hurdles.

to uninstalled and reinstalled, btw it is Money 2002. However, I am still
not able to open my backup, because of the password prompt. I never had a
password on the .mny database, other than my .NET Passport password
(Hotmail), which it does prompts me when I open Money on my old PC. I have
tried that password on the new PC to restore the db, but it will not accept
it.

You might want to remove the password from the data file before copying it
to move. I don't think this should be necessary, but then again...

Did your new machine come with a version of Money pre-installed? If so, did
you remove that version prior to installing from your M04 CD? I also don't
think this should be necessary, but then again...

I will try to open the sample db when I get home from work. I will let you
know.

Maybe. No.

Are you sure the new machine is also running Money 2004? (If it's not--i.e.,
it's an earlier version--this is the message it will give.) Does it open the
sample data file?

Default Restore Backup onto Another Computer

Hello,
I have a new computer and am trying to move my Money 2004
backup from a 2000 computer to the new XP computer, but
when I enter in my password, it tells me that it is
incorrect.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Is this a common
problem when transfering to another Operating System?

Thank you very much for your assistance,
Mary
