Usually, one refers to the file formats when speaking of backward compatibility, not the application. The M03 file format is not backward compatible (actually, probably, it's the schema used) in the sense that prior versions of the Money application don't know enough about it to read them. |

Only the reverse is true.Is there a way for me to - quote - > open/update my 2003-generated *.mny file using 2002, or
Money saved a copy of your Money 2002 file as *.m10 when you> am I out of luck? converted to Money 2003. |

| See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=84. The answer to your question is that the data file formats are not backward compatible to prior versions. Never have been. Not since v. 1. | Hello. My problem is that Money 2002 doesn't appear to recognize the password from my Money 2003 *.mny file. I know that Money 2003 is supposedly backward compatible w/ 2002 (meaning 2003 will open/read 2002 files). However, is the reverse true? Is there a way for me to open/update my 2003-generated *.mny file using 2002, or am I out of luck? I like MS Money, but don't want to shell out more $$$ for Money 2003. I'm running Money 2003 (OEM version) on my desktop PC. On my laptop PC, I just installed the retail version of Money 2002 (which I'd originally bought for use on my old desktop PC, which is not dismantled). I'll be on the road for several weeks, and the laptop will be my only computer for a while. Unfortunately, my PC's mfgr (eMachines) didn't actually provide the Money 2003 OEM CD with the computer ... they just pre-installed the software before they shipped it (didn't get Windows XP either ... just a crummy "recovery disk"). Seems to be their standard practice. Please note: I'm not trying to "hack" into the 2003 *.mny file, and I'm **not** asking for help to hack the password, either. I know the password (same as what's on my desktop PC, and it works just fine on the desktop). v/r, Eric |
