Default Re: trouble with 99 mbf files

I'd not delete or overwrite any Money files at this point at almost all
cost. You never know when you might have to go sideways or backwards. Rename
the old one if you want to give the new one the old one's name. When I start
wading into the slop like this, one of the first things I do is burn a copy
of EVERY file that I think I might need to mess with onto a CD-R just in
case I screw up and delete the wrong one or whatever.

I wouldn't give up on the Money file yet. There are lots of things you can
still try. If it's localized to one account, you can try things like
deleting that account and then re-adding it from a QIF created from the
other file. (This could really wreak havoc on Transfers, but they can be
sorted out with patience.) After the salv, you might try the msmoney -s on
the file with the trillion dollar balances.

Good luck.

Dick: Thank you for taking time to reply to my post this
morning. I appreciate the feedback. I tried a number of
procedures including the file salvage (a couple of times,
thinking it would eventually work...which it didnt), and
then downloaded the supersalvage. That did recover the
file, but when I open the file I saved it as..I now have
the billion/trillion dollar balance syndrome that is
referred to in the post you referred me to. Next
questions/scenrio

Its weird, because when you open the accounts in that
file, it has all the current balances and information
from my file when I last used it yesterday before all
this mess started. What will happen if I save this new
billion/trillion file on the one I am trying to fix? I
wont do that unless you think it might be okay.

My other file, which has business accounts, is all okay.
This file has my personal accounts. The good news is
that I parallel msmoney with quicken. And all the while
I've done this people thought I was a little anal.
Should I give up trying to fix the messed up msmoney
file? Thanks for any feedback and tips you might
provide. I hope you have a great day.

Money has been known to happily create corrupt backups from corrupt files.
For this reason, many of us practice and recommend keeping multiple
generations of backups around just to deal with cases like this.

Assuming you don't have multiple generations of backup, the msmoney -s and
salv.exe cures might help. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=104 for LOTS
of details.
