| I don't know whether you can set a category to go permanently with a payee, even with Kroger, you may have grocery purchase, or pharmacy purchase, or even buying a donation food bag. The way I perceive is that Money tries to be smart and intelligent by itself, it categorizes based on what you have entered before. Though first several times it may be wrong, but it will eventually get it. For the past transactions, you need to go to any one Kroger transaction, highlight, then right-click and choose Go to Payee, a popup window will list all Kroger items, from here, you can hightlight signle, multiple or all items by clicking the first then Ctrl-click another. One you highlight a group, you are able to change category in one action. For future transactions, when you get new statement, you have to edit each Kroger transaction one by one, and assign category for each payee name. After a while, Money will remember to automatically assign Grocery to Kroger. I don't have a theoretical proof for this practice, nor statistics how many time you need to teach it to remember. I do have problem with same payee having various category, Money will mess up for sure. So best way is to distinguish in payee name, rather than manually change every time. For example, "Walmart" for general household, "Walmart Pharacy" for prescription cost, and "Walmart School" for school supplies. | BTW, your first post in this thread offered NOTHING in the way of an answer or how to fix/help a problem. Your second post asked a question. I answered this question. So, I'm 1 for 1 in providing answers fix/help in this thread and you are 0 for. | Who said there was anything wrong with asking for help in a news forum? Who said there was anything wrong with saying negative things about Microsoft? You came here saying you'd already transitioned to Quicken. (So what do you care about making Money work?) You were complaining about Microsoft Support and MVPs not answering your question about this product you paid money for. All I pointed out to you was the fallacy of complaining to fellow users about Microsoft, as if we can do anything about Microsoft, and asserting that somehow MVPs owed you something because you bought a Microsoft product. BTW, I did answer one of the questions you asked. | MVPs don't work for Microsoft. They got none of your money. If you want support from Microsoft, open a support case. If they won't help, complain to them, not fellow users. The newsgroup is not a vehicle from Microsoft-to-user support. If you bought it in the last 30 days, see http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=49. | This is the reason why I dumpped money and went to Quicken. I email Microsoft support but never got an answer,,people posted this question here before but never got an answer (at least i didnt see it). And once again no MVPs has answered your question. Not very goos product support especially with a KEY feature missing . The closest i got to the answer was here http://www.microsoft.com/money/partner/tools/sic.asp MVPs prove me wrong!!!! | Just setting up Money 2003. Concerning my bank statements and my payee categories. How and where do I change the category of a payee so that it will always show that category in the future? Example: When I d/l the monthly statement from my bank, Kroger, to take an example, always show category Household for some reason. It should show Groceries. I can change this on a check by check basis. But how can I make a global change so that when the Payee Kroger hits the account, it will always assign Groceries as the category. This will same a bunch of work. Thanks for your help. DHH |
