| Update. It's not entirely fixed. Upon closer examination I discovered that most of my other credit card payments CAN be modified in the credit card account. For some reason this one cannot. I thought that was normal operation because I have seen that message before. Not sure what the criteria is for determining which transfer/credit card payments can only be modified in the account they came from. My downloads are working fine, and this transaction has been cleared so I guess I'll just leave it. The other thing I discovered as the result of searching the Microsoft KB is that the error saying that the transaction could not be recorded indicates a corrupt data file. Since that error went away after I modified the other side of this transactions I'm going to "assume" that corruption has now been repaired. Quick and standard file repairs find no bad records. | Amy, Thanks again for the tips, but it's fixed now. It was a bad ePay transaction. I'm guessing that bad transaction was making the transaction matching function fail. You can read my entire description of my findings back a few posts in this thread. | FIXED! I fixed it. Following is a detailed description of what I found/did. Maybe it will help another user. OK. Having tried everything else I figured that since it was dying AFTER downloading transactions, maybe it had something to do with transaction matching and maybe there was something wrong with one of my transactions in Money that it was trying to match to. Based on that assumption I decided to edit and then resave all my unreconciled transactions by simply adding a "1" to the memo field and saving. All went fine until I came to an ePay transaction for one of my credit cards. I was able to open the transaction and all looked fine with a category of Credit Card Payment and a sub category of the account it was supposed to go to, however, when I added the "1" to the memo field, I got an error saying the transaction could not be recorded. No other information. So I went to the account for that credit card and found the corresponding entry for that ePay. I knew I should not be able to edit this transaction here because you can only edit this type of transaction in the account it came from, but to my surprise I was able to double click it, modify the memo field and save the record. Mystified, I tried to double click it again to see if my change stuck, and this time I was given the message that I could only modify this transaction in the account it came from! So I went back to the problem account and once again tried to add a "1" to the memo. Now it let me save it. However, the category changed from Credit Card Payment to Transfer for some reason. I changed it back to Credit Card Payment and saved it again. I then downloaded my transactions from the bank and got no error. One of the transactions that was downloading was in fact the problem credit card payment. My guess is that whatever was wrong with that one transaction was making the transaction matching function die. Took me all day to fix this. I hope someone else finds this on google some day and it saves them a bunch of time ![]() Steve Z. | All of the sudden Money 2004 crashes after downloading transactions from my bank. The download completes, but when the list of statements appears, which shows that I have new transactions, it immediately crashes. After that, I can access the account in question, and it says there are 9 transactions to view, but they do not actually appear. See screenshot for exact error http://home.sc.rr.com/szurlo/crash.jpg I have restored a backup and redone the download a number of times. No help. I have done both a quick and a level 2 file recovery. No help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Money. No help. I have even installed Money on a different computer and tried downloading to that one. Same error. Please someone tell me there is a fix for this. My entire financial life is in this file. Thanks, Steve Zurlo |
