| I have done exactly what you have said. After I type in a new file name and click restore backup, I get an information screen pop up saying: Can't open file......possibly because it is a read only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected. If you have chosen the correct file and it cannot be accessed, you will need to click ok and open your most recent backup file. If the file is being used by another application, close it in the other application and click ok to try again. Back to square one! I do appreciate all your help :-) - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Lets make sure the exact process that has been walked through: > 1. Copy the file from the CD drive to your Desktop > a. On the Restore Backup dialog, select Restore From a Backup File and click Next 5. On the Restore Backup File dialog, select Let Me Browse for a Different Backup File and click Next 6. On the Restore dialog, pull down the Look In list and Select Desktop 7. Select the file that you copied in step 1 above and click OK 8. In the Restore Backup dialog, click the Browse button. 9. Click OK 12 Back on the Restore Backup dialog, click Restore If this still fails, at which exact step does it fail? -Mark "Pest" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1829b01c42279$84740640$a001280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > I choose My Documents to restore the backup, then comes > up with the following message: Can't open possibly > because it is a read only file or you do not have > permission to change it or your disk drive is write > protected. > I have unchecked the read only box and done all the > suggestions that everyone here has kindly forwarded... > Without any luck! :-( |

| What doest that "conversion screen" say exactly? Is it simply asking you "where" you want to restore the backup, and is the default location listed NOT legitimate (i.e. on your CD drive)? Click Browse and select a different location (e.g. "My Documents" folder and give it a name such a "My Money"). -Mark "Pest" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1c29401c421d3$53872b80$a501280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > I have done that which doesn't solve my problem. | Copy the file to your hard drive, remove the read-only attribute, and then tell Money to open it. | Restore the file to writable media - your hard drive. If you still can't open it, right-click on the file in its new location, choose Properties from the context menu, and remove the check from the 'read-only' box. -tom MVP - Microsoft Exchange Server ---- "Pest" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1c2a201c421b0$12d44b40$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > I am having problems restoring a backup money file from > my cdrw disc.
