I just bit the bullet and started over with empty accounts. I was able to
import most data from my bank. Now I am recategorizing everything. I think
this is still quicker that trying to delete dups and dealing with dups I
cannot delete. See the other answer in this thread from another guy. He was
doing some exporting and importing which seemed to help him.

Never anything that bad, no.

I had one account become corrupt a few years ago. Even though the frozen
transactions were all accurate, and everything else in my file appeared to
work properly, I exported all my accounts, then imported them all
simultaneously into a clean file. I didn't want to take chances that the
situation could deteriorate into something worse.

A year or so later, after upgrading to Money 2004, I could not edit
individual occurrences of bills in Bills and Deposits. This was a more
serious problem, as most of my credit card bills are set up as $0.00 for the
series, but I edit the individual occurrences when I know I'll have a
balance to pay those months. I had to export/import again to fix this.

Most of the file corruption problems I see posted here are fixable by a
quick file repair, "msmoney.exe" -s, or by a standard file repair, salv.exe
level 2.

Occasionally, ppl have to open their last good backup to export/import all
accounts, or start over from the beginning if no good backup exists.

Customizing the hard drive backup to prompt for backup is a good way to
ensure multiple generations of backups by providing an opportunity to change
the filename. Otherwise, by default, Money just overwrites the old backup
with the new backup.

I am in the midst of experiencing much of what you describe. I've got 12
years of data and things are starting to behave very strangely.

Any suggested strategy for starting over for FY 2004?

Default Has anybody else had very bad corruption?

About two weeks ago I went into MS Money like I do every day, but I noticed
that my account balances were very off. As I scanned all of my accounts I
noticed that all of a sudden I had alot of duplicate transactions. Not only
in accounts that I autosync with (Citibank) but with accounts I maintain
manually also. There was no rhyme or reason to it - and it was spread over
mot of my accounts.

At first I tried the salvage/super salvage utilities. No help. Then I
decided to go in and just delete the dups. They were easy to spot - they
were all unreconciled. I then found out that I could not delete some of
them. I'd get an error message that a transaction could not be edited. Again
these were unreconciled transactions that I had put in manually and some
that I had downloaded. THe only possible option was to start voiding all of
the transactions. This was going to be messy and take forever. Recovering
from a backup was not an option because the backup file had the same issues.

I decided to punt and start with a fresh MS Money file for the 2004 fiscal
year. I've managed to get most of my accounts caught up.

Has anybody else every had anything like this?
