I agree whole heartedly. This system of guessing what you're doing and then> category/SubCategory to each and every one of the > thousands of transactions I will have over the course of > a year!!!!! This thing is WORTHLESS if that is the case. > Roger trying to do it for you in the future is totally stupid. I feel like I am not in control of what it is doing at all. What I want to do is perform a full text search for something like "Shop Rite" and get a listing of all transactions in all of history in all of my account registers, and then select which ones are different and change the rest to say "Shop Rite" uniformly in the payee field and "Food: Groceries" in the category field. (Regardless what all this crap is like POS0000001 and ATMCKWithdraw that gets filled in automatically somehow.) I do NOT want the program to guess that because I changed the first Wal-Mart transaction to Household: Furnishings, that they should ALL be household furnishings in the future, including those that are groceries. I want it to provide me with a way of doing these batch changes in such a way that I remain in full control over doing it, and be able to do it after the fact. -Jeff |

What you now describe is doable with Tools-> Find&Replace... Advanced |

| No what he was saying is once you have entered it once, Money will remember it the next time. I very seldom have to change any of the category/subcategory. | Are you saying I have to manually assign the category/SubCategory to each and every one of the thousands of transactions I will have over the course of a year!!!!! This thing is WORTHLESS if that is the case. Money should learn from experience. There is not a setting to> based on Payee. This would seem to be a basic function; > I really should not have to manually assign > Food:groceries to every Shop-Rite transacton, but I can't > seem to find how to do it. advance that learning that I know of, but perhaps it could be helped by renaming the Payee to Shop-Rite Groceries. I have not experimented with that. If you wanted to try it out, go to Accounts&Bills-> Categories&Payees-> Payees and use Rename or Move. Let us know if that makes future transactions default to Groceries. This would be an area where improvements could sought when they think of future enhancements. |

| How do I get Categories to be assigned automatically based on Payee. This would seem to be a basic function; I really should not have to manually assign Food:groceries to every Shop-Rite transacton, but I can't seem to find how to do it. Thanks Roger |
