| I had a similar problem. Money 2004 is now "more advanced" in trying to match items -- but in my personal opinion, it is worse, because it does so WITHOUT notifing you of what it is doing. I have money 2004 Business, so I'm not sure if this is the same for you -- it has a new feature called "preferred payee names" under payees. Try the following: - from the menu; [help] [Microsoft money help], Ask money: "troubleshoot payee name matching" [Search] and also "Match variations of payee names" [Search] - On the Accounts & Bills menu, click Categories & Payees . - In the left pane, click Payees , and then click Go to Payee Rules Manager . - In the Preferred payee name list, Delete, YES DELETE, any matches that don't make sense -- After an import and download from my bank, I delete the matches that don't make sense to prevent incorrect automatic matching. - also you can go into menu: [tools] [options] [online services] tab, and change the "Match transaction within a ... day range" Hope that helps, Dan G (Not associated with Microsoft) - quote - > -----Original Message----- > I recently 'upgraded' from money 2000 to 2004. | I recently 'upgraded' from money 2000 to 2004. I had to export all my accounts in .qif format and import them in 2004. AFter dealing with a few duplicated transactions i thought i had things running smoothly. All i do is download my statements and manually mark them all reconciled. In money 2000, it would only ever ask me if a downloaded transaction matched one in the register if i had entered it manually. That was fine. However i'm finding with Money 2004, it's trying to match downloaded transactions against other reconsiled transactions that happened month or more ago. For example i spent $53.00 at a restaurant (The Keg) a month ago. That transaction was reconciled and in MSMoney. I just downloaded the last 10 days of transactions and i happened to spend $53 at Zellers. Names are nothing alike and the Keg transaction was already reconciled. However it tried to match them up. At first i didn't notice because it was up off the screen since i had lots of little transactions since that restaurant bill. Is this a sideeffect of the fact that i imported that Keg transaction in with a qif? I'm afraid that the next time i ever spend $53.00 it will try to match that transaction against this zellers one no matter how far in the future it is. Or is money 2004 just put a whole lot more effort into trying to match things than 2000 did? |
