| See the FAQ item at http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q110 and the one on mortgage refi that it references. Basically, you need to account for all of the cash flow on the settlement sheet. Some of the proceeds will transfer to each mortgage/loan you are paying down. This will take one transaction per loan account. The basic formula of transaction(s) is going to end up something like this: + transferred in balance of equity account (then close it) + transferred in balance of escrow account (then close it) + Income:Gains for gains (sale price - equity) + transferred in balance of equity account (then close it) - principal transfer:loan1 (for payoff value--then close it) .... - principal transfer:loan(n) (for payoff value--then close it) - (various) various) a whole bunch of other expenses they nick you for atclosing including commission, interest earned, any proportion of the escrowed items you owe, and so on) The net balance of the transaction(s) is the check you deposit. | I have sold my house and want to close the "house" account. In doing so, I want to pay off my mortgage, line of credit and trnasfer to excess to my banking accounts. However, when I try to create a transaction where I decrease the value of the account by my sales price, with splitting it between the three above mentioned areas, I do not see the mortgage account in the drop-down menu. Is there another way to make this transaction, or is there something wrong with the program? Thanks, Steve |
