| Sounds like voodoo to me, but never discount the power of voodoo. Glad you've got a solution. | Much thanks to both Dick and Cal for your responses and suggestions. Here's the outcome: While scratching my head, I noticed some strange behavior by Windows Explorer (!). Tracking that clue, I noticed that the Money problem began around the time that I had installed a recent Microsoft security patch for Internet Explorer 6. On the suggestion of a troubleshooter at work, I uninstalled that IE6 patch, rebooted, and found that the MS Money problem went away. Being a brave soul, I then reinstalled the IE6 patch and everything (still) seems to be working fine: IE6, Windows Explorer, and MS Money. As always with Microsoft sofware, go figure! |

In the mean time, I would also copy your .mny file to other filenames on zip and hard drives. Then I would reinstall Money. That is not nearly as drastic as it sounds. |

| And how long have you let it be "not responding" for? Not responding does not necessarily mean the application won't complete what it's doing sooner or later. | Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, waiting does nothing (it's not responding) and I get he same problem when backing up to the hard drive, so the zip is not part of the equation. And this is one of those problems that worked fine right up until it didn't. I can't think of anything I've changed or installed on the machine since the last time it backed up correctly. I'll let you know what I find. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Larry wrote: > > Until last week, Money 2003 behaved as configured: it > > compressed my backup file before writing it to my backup > > floppy drive (which is actually a zip disk). > > > For no known reason, it has started to hang up (that is, > > Windows XP Task Manager reports that it is not > > > compressing the backup file. I would set Money to back up to the hard drive. I would then copy> relevant when searching the newsgroup's archives. the backup file from the hard drive to the zip drive. Does that work? I would look into reinstalling the zip drive-- especially if you cannot write to it separately. |

| Until last week, Money 2003 behaved as configured: it compressed my backup file before writing it to my backup floppy drive (which is actually a zip disk). For no known reason, it has started to hang up (that is, Windows XP Task Manager reports that it is not responding) right after it displays the progress bar for compressing the backup file. No progress occurs, and it never hits the zip drive. Any suggestions will be welcome. I didn't find anything relevant when searching the newsgroup's archives. |
