| Thank you for your suggestion, Chuck. however, I was blocked again by the password problem I did find the file, mnyexpr.exe and I also explored Money Side and importing the data into Money Portfolio. Each approach took me to either the change password site, or the Money 2003 log-in. See my response to Rick, above. Hotmail doesn't have a problem with my password, as far as I can tell, the same one I have been using for years. However, something has changed in the Money data file. Even if the internet was down and I could not verify the password with Hotmail/Passport, I should be able to enter a valid password and open Money. But one day, something changed. I had "remember my password" checked and for years had no problem. Then one day it would not accept the password. As far as I can tell, it was coincidental with Microsoft deactivating my Hotmail account. Why and how, I don't know Thanks again for trying. |

| Thank you for the suggestions, Rick, but no luck. I'm using Money 2003 and it will not let you sign-in without a password - accessing or not accessing the internet. Without something typed in the password filed the sign-in buttons are grayed out. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Money 2003. I entered my hotmail account automatically but does not recognize my hotmail password. I know the password is valid, because I can log-in to Hotmail and receive email. I'm using the old password that should be associated with the money file. There is a Password Manager function within Money, but available only after you open Money. I've been through FAQs and help files. One of the advertised features of having a .Net Passport (which MS said the hotmail account was)is Passport will help you restore forgotten passwords and restore the Money file. That just took me to a reset password screen. I've importing the file into MSN Money Portfolio, but was blocked by the password issue. It seems as if the password is embedded in the Money file. Thinking it might be corrupted, I've restored from backup, but still have the same problem. I should be able to open the Money file even if I wasn't connected to the internet, so that eliminates any discrepancy between the hotmail password and the file password. Quicken won't import it unless Money was already open. What frustrates me is, through numerous statements on the web site Microsoft assured me .Net Passport was safe and secure AND if I had a Hotmail account, that was my .Net Passport account. Yet, Microsoft instituted a new policy regarding inactive Hotmail accounts. I don't blame them for wanting to get rid of dead accounts. As far as email usage is concerned, mine fit the category. But, by their own definition, email was not the only usage for the Hotmail account. Now, I'm locked out of my own financial data. I did not have trouble until Microsoft deactivated my account. The other frustration is Microsoft doesn't seem to be monitoring this bulletin board/Newsgroup. We have many frustrated users and few answers. And, those come from other users with more experience or expertise. I've talked/chated with a Microsoft expert (SRZ040213001839). Bottom line - "Sorry, Charlie. You are locked out. Your financial data is not accessable." That is not an acceptable answer. Rick, thank you for being a Christian. Your civil response is so much more pleasing than the rantings and foul expressions of other people posting their frustrations. | Another possibility is to go in through the "back door" by going in through Money Express. You can find it using your search button (I think it is in the Money System folder). Click on it, enter your file password as you remember it, and see if you can get in. If you get in to Money Express, you can go to "Options" and then "Configure bills". Sign in again with your file password. If you get in, go to Tools/Options and change your start page to something other than Money Home. Also, then go to Password manager, disassociate your program from Passport, and set up a local password instead. Let me know if this works. | Greetings, Dean! Just wondering if you had tried opening your Money file not using the Passport sign-in? When there was the Passport sign-in glitch at Microsoft servers a couple of weeks ago and we all were getting that infamous error message about our UserID and Password were incorrect...etc, I was able to click on signing in not using Passport. Is this an option in Money 2002? I use Money 2004, so I'm not sure of the features you may or not have. Also, in this same vain, does Money 2002 have a "Password Manager"? You can open the Password Manager and change the sign-in for Passport. Hopefully you will get it worked out. God Bless! Rick www.EmbraceHisGrace.com |

| Microsoft explained the problem, but I don't like the solution. I've been using Money for years. The password was linked to my Hotmail account created before MS introduced .Net Passport. I never changed it. One day I could not open the Money 2003 file. I checked my Hotmail profile to verify the password only to find MS had disabled the account for lack of activity. I guess they didn't count the 3 or 4 times I logged on through Money 2003 on a weekly basis. I reactivated the account. I wish I had stopped there. But, I improved the password to make it more secure. I thought all I had to do was enter the new password when I open Money. But, that did not work. I've tried combinations of passwords. I've changed the Hotmail password back. Nothing will work. MS technical support say all is lost. Open a new file and re-enter the six or seven years of data and start over. Had not Morcosoft deactivated my Hotmail account, I'd not be in this position. Microsoft should not have the capability of locking me out of my own files. They need to fix the link between the Money password and the Hotmail or .Net Passport password. It should have been a simple task to change my password without perminate loss of data. |
