| Thanks for your help Brent. That was a great explanation to fixing Money. It worked with ease......and also saved me the headache of having to deal with the helpdesk people over the phone. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Ok, my Money 2002 died on Sat night as well so I called > Microsoft and here's the deal: > Microsoft put out an update to Money 2004 that > unfortunately was sucked into 2002 also and corrupts it > somehow so that it won't open anymore. | I just reinstalled and I'm back in business. Word of advice: On the first login, click "work offline". Then, go to your internet updates settings and click "off" program updates. When they get this thing fixed, you can go back and click it back on. -- Brenda Kane "Brenda" <brenda.kane[at]verizon.net> wrote in message news:#YeofqC9DHA.972[at]tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... - quote - > Thank you very much. | Thank you very much. | Ok, my Money 2002 died on Sat night as well so I called Microsoft and here's the deal: Microsoft put out an update to Money 2004 that unfortunately was sucked into 2002 also and corrupts it somehow so that it won't open anymore. The fix for me was very easy. We just un-installed and re-installed (I know some of you have tried this already, bear with me...), but on the reinstall we had to choose "Custom Installation" and then change the name of the folder where the program is installed. We changed it so the program installs in a subfolder called "2002" inside the Microsoft Money folder (ie, should read "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\2002", or he said could just put "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2002"). Apparently it doesn't matter which way you do it. They are going to change their update on Tue the 17th so that if you're folder has the characters "2002" in it somewhere the update will know not to install there. However, even if you do this fix and then install new money updates (which happens automatically on my computer, so the only way I know how stop them is to not restart my computer) before they fix the update, you're program will be corrupted again. They said if I wait until Wed to install any updates everything should be fine. Few other points: 1. I didn't know this, but if you un-install Money you don't lose any of your data, just double click you're data file when you start back up after the re-install and everything should be right there. 2. If what I said doesn't work call Microsoft support. They take a credit card number and charge you $35 but since this is a problem they created, as soon as I suggested that I shouldn't have to pay, they refunded the full amount. (Of course I haven't actually seen the refund but they said they refunded it...). Hope this works for you. |
