No doubt. I am convinced that the #1 reason MS doesn't open the thing up
some is fear of support costs.

Oh agreed. I am sure that you are a) capable enough and b) pragmatic enough
to tweak the output to meet your requirements. The point I was trying to
make is that MS probably have a paranoia about half competent programmers
screwing up whatever they were doing and then blaming it on MS.

And I can certainly understand that as well, but opening it up doesn't
necessitate allowing, say, write access or the ability to play with the DB
structure. I've never wanted to put stuff in programmatically, but it sure
would be nice to be able to get stuff out in more comprehensive and flexible
ways than MoneyLink.

I'm not sure I get your point. Both TaxCut and MoneyLink seem to get in
there, but they had lots of help, I suspect. My suspicion is that it would
be relatively difficult to get in there without help as there are many
layers of obfuscation like MSISAM--what even is it?

One can understand MS NOT wanting some clever programmer hacking around in
the database and when it all goes wrong expecting MS to fix it.

I am sure there are plenty of very able people who could do
modifications/interfaces without having to try very hard but equally!!!

There clearly are hooks. It's just none of us know what they are.

confirmed my fear that Money is a "closed" system).

Default Acessing the MNY file from VB.Net

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to access Money's
DB programmatically (e.g. API's or using ODBC).

Thanks for any hint.

Phil
