| Thanks for the info! As I mentioned in my original post, I'm also considering Quicken. And while I realize that everyone here uses Money and no doubt views Quicken as the enemy, I figure it's at least worth considering if I'm going to make a change anyway. I assume both programs are far more similar than they are different, but if anyone has any experience using both products and could recommend one over the other that would be great too. | I've used Quicken for over 12 years, and "upgraded" from version to version over that time. Like so many other Intuit customers I've grown disenchanted with their crap attitude and increasingly awful software. I thought about a change to Micro$oft Money and asked a question in this group that nobody answered. Never mind, I downloaded the International English trial version of Money 2004 and set about testing it. As advertised it imported my QIF files, all the accounts balanced and I set out to try the reporting that had been the reason for my question. After creating an account summary report I changed the grouping basis to Category and lo and behold, apparently, early last year we paid the building cleaner 464 thousand trillion dollars. No thanks Bill, failed within ten minutes of starting the "trial". In short, Quicken 2004 sucks and Money 2004 sucks. Ignore the FUD that the M$ "MVP's " post in this group and try www.gnucash.org It's not particularly special either but at least you're not lining the pockets of greedy bastards who only give a shit about parting you from your hard earned dollars. Paul oh yes, before some enlightened guru points out that GnuCash doesn't run on Windoze, I know. Try Linux,, it's worth it and its authors haven't hidden a "critical" security flaw for the last six months. | I'm skeptical the recent Passport problems have anything to do with your version of Money. M04 seems OK. The (only?) major change since M01 was the M02 re-design of the scheduled bills interface. What was two screens that confused some people became one that causes a whole batch of different problems. Now you can edit any of the next 12 occurrences of a scheduled item--a good thing. But the old list that showed every instance of upcoming items disappeared. Along with that came a really annoying simplification of the types of transactions that can be scheduled and lots of limitations in how they can be scheduled that have nothing to do with how transactions can be entered. M01 was much faster than M02. M03 and M04 are each slightly faster than the immediate predecessor. M01 was certainly the fastest of the post-M97 versions. | Hi, I currently use Money 2001 but may be looking to upgrade to a newer version due to the Passport issues I've had lately. Since Money 2001 isn't supported anymore, it's unlikely that Microsoft will fix it. Anyway, I was hoping to hear from some of you who have used some of the recent versions of Money such as 2002, 03, 04 or all of the above to see what version you would recommend. I'm a big fan of 2001 (when it works) so hopefully the newer versions aren't radically different. I'm also looking at Quicken, although I'd prefer to stick with Money since I've used 2001 for a few years and feel comfortable with the look and feel. Thanks in advance for any advice!! |
