| Put the full amount of income under the split for , let's say, Salary and then put your cashback as a negative amount under an expense category. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > How can I show a cashback situation on a deposit. How are you recording your paychecks?> my income to show more accurately in Money. But it won't > let you put an expense on a deposit, like when you split a > tansaction, tried that, it was the only thing I could > think of. I often times keep money out of a paycheck when > I put it in the bank. The "Paycheck" category creates a split with one tab for wages, and three tabs for expenses (pre-tax, taxes, after-tax). Anytime you enter a paycheck, you're recording expenses on a deposit, and I've never seen Money have an issue with this. Adding one more expense (or transfer to a cash account) to the "after-tax" tab shouldn't be an issue. If you've already entered the total amount of the paycheck before adding the expense (or transfer), Money should notice the discrepancy when you attempt to enter it, and prompt you to correct it. One of the options offered will be to set the total amount of the deposit to the correct amount. If you're using regular splits for paychecks, you may want to consider using the special "Paycheck" category. This will also help Money estimate taxes more accurately, particularly if you have substantial pre-tax expenses. Another way to account for cash kept out is to deposit the paycheck to your cash account (assuming you have one), then make a transfer from your cash account to your checking account to record the deposit. This technique also works for depositing multiple paychecks in a single deposit. -- Scott Tyler agent_scotty-at-hotmail-dot-com |

| Be our guest and go to Quicken, but I'd say your problem can only be technique because I've certainly done this kind of thing many, many times. I don't have a clue what Tools|Options has to do with this. One doesn't go into Tools|Options to split a deposit. If you want to go to Quicken, please do: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...7&loc=105&sp=1. If you want help using Money and are willing to quit being a jerk about it, consider this example and then tell me why you can't do exactly the same thing. It's not hard. There's nothing Money does to prevent it (besides maybe making it impossible to schedule it this way which I already told you is a stupid limitation in Money). Let's say I got $100.00 of Other Income:Miscellaneous and spent $24.95 of it on Food:Groceries. I create a deposit transaction in my Pocket Change account for $75.05 and split it into $100.00 Other Income:Miscellaneous and -$24.95 Food:Groceries. Voila. That's all there is to it. $75.05 gets deposited to the Pocket Change account. $100.00 of Income gets recorded. $24.95 of Expense gets recorded. Piece of cake. I also don't have any clue what your problem is with tracking taxes and paychecks, either. My paycheck changes all of the time and I have no problem with that, either. It's not kinda stupid at all. It works just fine. Just common sense in how to use it, that's all. "Toni" <cville1987[at]sbcglobal.net> wrote in message news:b5e101c3ed21$86e00d80$a101280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Tried it. | Tried it. Went into Tools/Options. Split the transaction, part deposit, part expense, it still put it in my register as the whole amount deposited. I know they know people keep money out of their deposits, they didn't figure that into the program, it shouldn't have to be that hard to do. I can't track my taxes and such on my paychecks, because alot of it is commission and it changes too much. You can only do that if your checks are exactly the same everytime. It's kinda stupid. | It won't let you schedule one that way, but it will let you enter one that way. This is the stupidest thing about the M02 scheduled bills redesign--there are now many more transactions you can enter but not schedule than there were before. Depending on what you are doing and your Tools|Options settings, it may also complain about Income in an Expense or vice versa. Tell it you really want to and to shove off. | How can I show a cashback situation on a deposit. I want my income to show more accurately in Money. But it won't let you put an expense on a deposit, like when you split a tansaction, tried that, it was the only thing I could think of. I often times keep money out of a paycheck when I put it in the bank. |
